We are proud to announce that our collection of nearly 10,000 historical photographs is now available for your searching and viewing!

This is but a small sampling of what we will be digitizing and making available on our website in 2023 and beyond. With the assistance of volunteers, we hope to add our other collections which include books, documents, framed items, artifacts and textiles. Please consider becoming a TKHS volunteer!

Landmark Homes

In observance of the 1987 Sesquicentennial of the Town of Tonawanda the Tonawanda-Kenmore Historical Society, under the leadership of President Marilyn Brown, took on an initiative to designate some 54 historic “Landmark Homes.” Each home owner was offered a five-by-five-inch brass plaque to identify the designation.  A scrapbook that includes the letter from Ms. Brown to the home owners, a map of the Landmark Homes and photographs of the individual homes, can be viewed here:

Early Tonawanda

The Internet Archive contains some fascinating early history of Tonawanda. Published in 1880, in Commerce, Manufacture & Resources of Buffalo and Environs, the chapter on Tonawanda can be read here!
